Waerebo was declared by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage in August 2012.

Waerebo located in Flores Island, Indonesia. With 1,200 meters above sea level, to reach Waerebo you need extra energy to walk up 7 km or about 4 hours.

Traditional house in Waerebo is called Mbaru Niang, has cone-shaped and five floors with a height of about 15 meters. Mbaru Niang is a symbol of protection, community unity, and being the center of social activities of the community.

  • A one-way drive from Labuan Bajo to nearest village before walking to Waerebo is about 3 to 4 hours with curves and bumpy road.
  • A one-way walk to Waerebo Village at the top of the mountain will be three to four hours. Be ready for it, use comfortable shoes, clothes, and good physical condition.
  • Overnight in Waerebo, you will sleep at sharing traditional house of Mbaru Niang with other guest.
  • Dinner and breakfast in Waerebo are included, you will eat together with other guest and local people. There’s no food option. You eat what they served, otherwise no other choice of food.
  • There’s limited electricity in Waerebo.
  • NO internet signal in Waerebo.
  • NO ATM in Waerebo. Bring cash money. All transactions use cash Indonesia Rupiah. Withdraw some cash while you are in Labuan Bajo.
  • Most local people in Waerebo can’t speak English. Follow tour guide instructions during the trip.
